Oversees the day-to-day operation of the financial accounting system, including the processing of all accounting transactions and preparation of all financial reporting. The Accounting Manager reviews financial reports prior to distribution to AMTA’s Board of Directors, management, staff department heads, MTF’s Board of Trustees and management, NCBTMB’s Board of Directors and management, and prepares reports for all chapters. The Accounting Manager supports the Controller in managing the internal control structure of AMTA, MTF, and NCBTMB.
Manages the accounting system and maximizes the effectiveness of the general ledger system for budgets, financial statements and grant reporting;
Assigns and audits the work of the accounting department;
Ensures that all accounting functions for chapters are performed accurately and in a timely manner;
Applies AMTA’s financial policies and accounting theory;
Prepares all allocation of direct and indirect expenses to the various departments, activities and projects;
Prepares the required journal entries to properly record revenues and expenses on a timely basis;
Ensures that the revenue and expenses generated by operations are properly recorded under the accrual method of accounting and consistent with generally accepted accounting principles;
Reviews and reconciles accounting records and subsidiary ledgers/schedules to appropriate external and internal reports and transactions. ( e.g. reconciliation of fixed asset records, etc.);
Responsible for the timely preparation of AMTA,MTF, and NCBTMB financial statements and progress reports on programs and activities;
Responsible for the analysis and communication of financial information to determine present performance and to forecast the future financial position of the organization as it relates to budget and current performance;
May serve as a staff team leader or liaison. In this capacity, ensures assigned operational committee fulfills its charges and/or stated purposes and meets identified measurable objectives within budget and on deadline;
Perform all other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Five years experience managing the accounting function for an organization; experience with organizations that have well developed performance measures;
Ability to develop financial projections, forecasts and trend reports; strong analytical, problem solving and judgment skills;
Ability to analyze data, set priorities, develop plans and budgets, take initiative, work collaboratively and deliver measurable outcomes;
Ability to develop reports, perform system balancing and integrate accounting systems;
Proven ability to lead and motivate others to performance excellence while fostering a sense of teamwork as well pride in the organization amongst staff and volunteers;
Excellent written, oral and presentation skills;

Education and Experience:
A minimum of five years recent experience in budgeting, cost accounting, financial management systems and financial analysis.
B.S. degree in Accounting or Finance, CPA is a plus.
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook;
Experience and/or knowledge of policy and procedure documentation, financial analysis, financial reporting, GAAP accounting requirements;
Experience with Sage and report writers such as Crystal Reports or similar accounting and report writing software is required, experience in budgeting and/or member database software is a plus, experience with QuickBooks is a plus;
Three years experience in a supervisory role required;
Experience in a non-profit environment a plus.
This position works closely with all departments and staff at AMTA. This position will act as a complete back up for the Controller. This position requires some evening and weekend work and may involve some travel.
