Wespath Benefits and Investments, recognized as one of “Chicago’s Best and Brightest Companies to Work For®” in 2017, has an opportunity for a Staff Accountant - Payroll and Accounts Payable who will be responsible for biweekly payroll processing and for processing and maintaining records for accounts payable of all third party vendors. The Staff Accountant is also responsible for daily cash management of organization’s operating fund bank accounts, including preparation of wire transfer and ACH payments. This position will also be required to analyze general ledger account information and represent the accounting team on relevant organizational projects. The staff accountant is responsible for complying with federal, state, and local requirements along with maintaining internal controls by following processes and procedures.
More specifically, the Staff Accountant will have the opportunity to:
Perform all payroll functions including processing, reconciliation and verification of submission and approval of all timesheets to ensure employees are paid in a timely and appropriate manner.
Maintain payroll records for the use of personal time off, holidays and leaves of absence.
Serve as the primary interface and administrator of the commercial payroll application; maintain data, resources and other information available to employees and management.
Prepare appropriate tax forms.
Work with Human Resources to ensure proper administration of employee benefits.
Maintain financial security by adhering to internal controls.
Review vendor payments for proper approval and expense coding and prepare payments for distribution.
Analyze and resolve problems related to vendor accounts.
Prepare and record journal entries in the general ledger.
Prepare and distribute miscellaneous monthly billings.
Review operating funds’ cash activities on a daily basis.
Analyze and properly fund operating funds’ cash requirements and ensure appropriate funding via initiation of required transfers and approvals.
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent work experience
5 years’ experience and demonstrated competency in financial office environment processing payroll using a payroll software
Demonstrated competency with accounts payable invoice management software and interfacing with a general ledger accounting system software
