The function of the Internal Auditor was established for the purpose of providing support to department activities with specific responsibility for ensuring that overall fiscal policies, practices and/or regulations meet compliance requirements. The Accountant/Internal Auditor position will also complete audits and reviews of district processes, procedures and methodologies; developing and monitoring internal controls; conducting audits of internal funds; evaluating the degree of internal control exercised in the District and providing updated procedures and work aids for district staff.
Performs account reconciliation and analysis.
Prepares and maintains journal entries and allocations.
Coordinates monthly financial reports.
Assists with annual preparation of school district budget and annual financial audit.
Develops and implement procedures with emphasis on internal controls.
Develops and maintain reports and files on asset liability account balances.
Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), District 131 accountability requirements and other applicable state and federal regulations.
Prepare transactions for posting data to various ledgers, registers, journals and logs following established accounting techniques and procedures. Assists with maintenance of the various ledger accounts including reconciliation of the general ledger, revenue accounts, expenditures, and cash balances.
Assist with preparation of adjusting entries based on results from reconciliation and general ledger maintenance to complete month end and year end closing.
Ensures proper account coding for all transactions according to the chart of accounts.
Assist with balancing and reconciling all payrolls processed and interface into financial accounting system.
Assists in performing monthly reconciliation and annual audits of student activity funds.
Assist with monthly bank reconciliation to insure all items have been properly recorded in general ledger for all bank accounts.
Assist with the management of Fixed Assets within the accounting system and communicate as necessary with departments such as IT and facilities on security of assets.
Acts as the backup to the Payroll Assistant.
Participate in cross training within the department as well as training of other staff in relation to appropriate accounting processes.
Analyze transactions and activities in order to improve efficiency, productivity and performance of the District and to disclose and prevent inefficiencies.
Influence and manage stakeholder's expectations while maintaining an independent view.
Prepare annual risk assessment of departments and/or functional areas and evaluate areas of risks.
Develop Annual Audit Plan responsive to the risk assessment results.
Develop and design risk-based audit programs and plans that effectively evaluate, examine and test the adequacy of the internal control systems, policies, and laws.
Review and evaluate the suitability of internal control design in place to mitigate, detect, or deter risks, fraud and non-compliance.
Conduct and document audit testing, sampling reportable issues, and dimension of risk.
Communicate to senior management and draft comprehensive and complete report of audit scope, findings, recommendations and management's action plan.
Monitor the business function of the District accordingly and report all material findings and prepare appropriate recommendations for corrective actions.
Maintain all financial records/documentation for all audits and reviews performed.

Assume any other duties as may from time to time be delegated by the supervisor and the supervisor may make any adjustment in the scope of responsibilities as outlined above which will be in the interest.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Associate’s degree with 5 years related experience.
Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
Proven record of auditing as it relates to Accounts Payable and Payroll.
Excellent organizational skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities.
