Northern Illinois University (NIU) invites applications for the anticipated position of Controller in the Controller’s Office. This position is a full-time, Supportive Professional Staff Position. The Controller is responsible for reporting to the Associate Vice President for Finance and Treasury and in collaboration with colleagues across the campus, the Controller is responsible for assuming all responsibilities of the university’s financial resources and providing administrative leadership for the functional areas in accounting.
The Controller provides leadership of university-wide accounting operations, as well as financial reporting expertise and ensures compliance with all applicable Federal and State regulations and University policies and procedures. The Controller will lead the university campus to include auxiliary system accounting in stewardship of the university’s financial accounts and records, preparation of its financial statements, tax filing and compliance, ensuring effective internal controls systems and presentation of various financial and non-financial reports and interpretation of data to executive leadership and the campus community. The Controller is the primary interface with the Illinois Office of the Comptroller and external auditors.
• Undergraduate degree in Accountancy • Advanced degree in Accountancy or related field • Registered or licensed Certified Public Accountant • Ten years of demonstrated progressive professional accounting experience with five of the years in financial statement preparation in a public higher education institution or university related organization, preferably within the State of Illinois • Five years of effective supervisory experience • Demonstrated understanding of enterprise financial systems: preferably Oracle PeopleSoft • Proficient knowledge of MS Office
