An established family office, based in Chicago, is seeking a family office Managing Director (COO) to succeed the current Managing Director who is retiring after 22+ years of service. This is an excellent opportunity for a “hands-on” family office/wealth management professional with broad based knowledge across the disciplines of tax, wealth management, investments, client service and advisory skills.
Supervising one staff, Accounting Manager and external advisors, the Managing Director will oversee the provision of wealth management services to this multi-generational family and their related entities in an efficient, high quality and cost-effective manner. Serving as the primary point of contact for all family clients, this leader will quarterback the delivery of services which include tax planning and compliance; financial management and reporting; insurance and risk management; estate planning and administration; foundations and philanthropy; investment oversight; and coordination and planning of family meetings. Reporting to the Owners, this executive will supervise day to day operations of the family office, prepare tax returns, be responsible for quarterly tax reviews, assist in the planning and execution of the family’s priorities and strategic objectives today and in the future.
This is a tax compliance oriented position preparing 100+ returns per year.
Undergraduate degree; CPA designation preferred; MST degree desirable. Experience with Lacerte a plus but not required.
Approximately 4+ years of experience working with ultra-high net worth family clients in the family office and/or wealth management industry. Emphasis on income tax preparation.
Solid foundation in accounting principles for trusts, partnerships, investment partnerships and individuals.
Knowledgeable in all the disciplines of wealth management (financial management and reporting, tax, trust and estates, investments, foundations and philanthropy and risk management) and the integration of these disciplines.
Prior experience providing financial services to family office clients and multi-generational families and managing those client relationships.
Experience working with multi-disciplinary advisors to proactively problem solve and advise ultra-high net worth clients.
Strong leadership, management and mentoring experience.
Strong listening, presentation and written and verbal communication skills.
Background in creating operational efficiencies in financial services organizations through technology and other means, desirable.
