In the Senior Staff Accountant position, ensure revenue and expenses are properly recorded via reconciling the general ledger to the operating bank account on a daily and monthly basis. To collect analyze data to ensure reporting is error free.
Key areas of responsibility include:
Prepares all daily and monthly general ledger and expense allocation journal entries. This will include but is not limited entries to correct batch, fund, and project allocations.
Prepares all general ledger reconciliations each month as well as annual audit work papers
Internal Auditing and Research
Substantiates financial transactions and reports by researching and auditing documents
Distributes information and backup documents to internal stakeholders and auditors as directed
Records non-donor in-house deposits, stock gifts, CGA’s, funds from Gift in Kind sales, and foreign checks
Imports daily revenue files into ledger and reconciles to source documents each day
5 years of relevant “hands-on” experience as an accountant with increasing responsibility
Experience completing electronic journal entries and doing general ledger reconciliations
Familiarity with Financial Statements
Experience with General Ledger Functions and the Month End/Year End Close process
Required Technical Knowledge:
Intermediate skill level with Microsoft Office applications, Excel skills must be an advanced level to include VLOOKUP’s and Pivot Tables
Strong working knowledge of accounting software such as Sage MIP and/or Adaptive.
In-depth understanding of GAAP.
Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures.
General knowledge and understanding of taxation and auditing processes.
Must be comfortable accurately working with bank activity and numbers. Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to effectively and tactfully communicate to a diverse audience.
Excellent attention to detail; strong analytical and problem solving skills with strong follow-up abilities.
Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality.
Ability to simultaneously manage multiple tasks or projects with competing deadlines and to meet set deadlines.
Must be self-motivated and proactive with the ability to work independently with minimal direction.
Ability to establish and maintain a comprehensive and accurate record-keeping system and office procedures.Work performed in a general office environment. May require overtime hours during peak periods. Also requires periodic participation and attendance at organization sponsored events and meetings.Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. Visual competency with minimal assistance.
