JOB SUMMARY: This position’s responsibilities include monthly financial budget vs actual reporting and analysis, ad hoc reporting, preparing the annual budget and subsequent monthly budgets, projections, and lead for all international activities. Work closely with the Finance manager to support the monthly and annual financial statement preparation. This specifically includes accounting for: Beijing office and the wholly foreign owned entity, Hong Kong joint office, CAA Global.
Interacts at all levels and with budget owners or other stakeholders to produce timely, efficient and accurate month-end financial statements, and financial projections.
Assist in the preparation of the annual budget and reviewing data in Prophix and Great Plains monthly.
Review quarterly financial variance reports with budget owners, understand the budget items and compare to actual for accuracy and completeness.
Review quarterly professional development analysis and margin reports prepared by Financial Analyst and compare against budget on a timely basis.
Maintain and balance subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating, posting, and reconciling transactions and resolving discrepancies on a timely basis.
Work closely with the Finance Manager to allocate the workload to complete monthly financials within 10 days.
Work with investment manager to accurately record investment transactions and monitor policy compliance.
Supervise the work of the Financial Analyst; complete all monthly, quarterly, annual and adhoc analysis quickly and investigate problem areas and take action to maintain timing and quality standards.
Act as the Finance Liaison to the Hong Kong and Beijing offices; invoice collection, payment processing, payroll, monthly reconciliation and accounting
Review foreign subsidiaries work that is completed by the China accounting firm; ensure transactions are recorded properly, invoices are issued and approved timely, tax payments, and payroll are recorded and reconciled on a timely basis
Prepare the month-end close, including journal entry preparation and review for all international activity
Identify, based on address in customer database, revenue from international sources and create a monthly journal entry to properly record revenue in the SOA’s international segment income statements
Review quarterly financial analysis of international operations and compare against budget
Prepare and review account reconciliations and journal entries for international segments
Review and monitor special international accounting and tax regulations for changes
Prepare international tax returns and supplemental schedules for the outside tax preparer; including quarterly GST/HST filings
Review and analyze subsidiaries financial statements and prepare required information as needed for statutory, banking, investment, and other purposes
Review and monitor all activity for CAA Global joint venture
One of three staff liaison to the Finance Committee and Audit & Risk Committee
Assist CFO and Senior Director of Finance in design and implementation of corporate accounting policies and procedures across our international activities
Act as backup for budget preparation in Prophix as well as financial statement preparation in Great Plains.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED (an equivalent amount of training, education and experience will be considered)
Bachelor’s degree in accounting required, CPA plus
Ten or more years of Accounting experience, preferably with exposure to international accounting, but will consider overall experience
Strong analytical and organization skills
Strong computer skills using Microsoft Excel
General ledger software experience preferred (e.g. Great Plains)
Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES including competencies that may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position.
Knowledge of non-profit accounting
Advanced knowledge of Excel
Knowledge of Microsoft Great Plains accounting software is a plus
Multilingual - Mandarin Chinese, a plus
Strong initiative and ability to manage multiple projects as well as strong follow-through skills
Ability to communicate effectively with employees at all levels of the organization
Ability to make objective decisions using sound judgment
Strong written and oral communication skills are a must
Proven ability to build and maintain strong working relationships, both internally and externally
