Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Staff Accountant will be responsible for assisting the Controller in Itasca, Illinois with monthly financials and with accounting projects. The Senior Staff Accountant should demonstrate the ability and desire to “roll up his/her sleeves” and get into the details. Strong analytical skills will be the key to success. The Senior Staff Accountant will work closely with, and provide accurate and timely information to, senior management.
Responsibilities include supervising all financial operations of the Illinois corporation including, but not limited to: customer deposits and cash management, purchasing, general ledger, treasury, budgeting, audit and tax. This position is responsible for development of performance metrics and preparation of financial analyses and reports to support management and bank objectives. In addition, they will ensure financial risk is appropriately managed and mitigated through compliance and monitoring. Detailed responsibilities include:
Providing analytical support and savvy business judgment to support management team on the development and execution of a winning strategy
Driving financial planning and analysis
Manage the Work-In-Process schedule and support operations with revenue recognition and cashflow
Assist Controller with month end close and financial reporting
Developing analytical tools to better analyze the business, measure key operating metrics and identify customer trends
Support the internal audit functions and serving as liaison with independent auditor and auditor's staff
Support tax reporting
Assist Controller with providing financial leadership in contract negotiations
Assist Controller with evaluating and managing operating system capabilities for financial reporting as well other key internal processes
EXPERIENCE / SKILLS REQUIRED:
Five to ten years of demonstrated experience in leading the fiscal operations of a company, including supervision of staff, accounting software, and production/analysis of in-depth financial reporting
Prior experience as a Staff Accountant in the construction services industry
Prior public accounting experience with a large regional or national firm
Significant experience in a rapid growth environment
A self-starter with high degrees of energy, sense of urgency, creativity and intelligence
Deep understanding and knowledge of how cash impacts the business
Strategic yet hand’s-on. All-encompassing versus strictly big picture focused
Manages within a leveraged environment with bank covenant reporting requirements
Prior experience within the electrical contracting industry
Prior experience in large and small firms, has the ability to dip down
Has participated in both organic and acquisitions-led growth
Can thoroughly explain how financial risk is monitored and managed with examples
Prior experience with eCMS accounting system
Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or other applicable business focused degree
At least 5 – 10 years professional level accounting experience in a construction industry.
CPA and MBA preferred
