Job Purpose
The Vice President, Controller is responsible for the overall management and integrity of financial information and systems for the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives and all of its related entities (CHIME). This includes timely completion of the annual audit and 990s; month-end close process as well as the day-to-day operations of the accounting and finance team; departmental staffing; financial statements and analysis; financial policy & procedures (in conformity with GAAP and CHIME policy); internal controls; policies and procedures; revenue recognition; general ledger activity; accounts payable/receivable; and compliance.
Serves as counsel, team member and/or partner in the provision and analysis of financial data; training and training plans for accounting and non-accounting staff on financial management (policy & procedures, budget, etc.); evaluation and implementation of new or current programs, products or services for all related entities.
Reporting to the CFO, the Controller will support the CFO in the financial reporting and budgeting process, benchmarking and process improvement. The Controller should embrace a growth mindset with an inner desire to strive for excellence.
Duties and Responsibilities
Manage accounting and finance department team to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.
Work with pertinent staff and budget owners to accurately prepare forecasts.
Ensure all financial operations comply with federal and state laws
Coordinate risk management reviews with insurance broker and manage insurance programs. Serve as the secondary liaison to the Finance Committee.
Guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures; oversees internal controls to ensure GAAP compliance.
Coordinates all internal and external financial reporting including budgets, financial statements, tax returns, etc.
Manages preparation of the internal financial statements, prepares timely and relevant financial analysis, and provides financial reporting support for the CFO.
Manages the annual audit to a clean opinion; ensures PBC list completed in timely and accurate manner and builds strong working relationship with auditors by providing exceptional support.
Mentors and manages direct reports to achieve high levels of performance; provides coaching and appraisal of performance.

Education & Work Experience
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business or finance. CPA and significant public accounting experience required. Graduate degree highly desirable. CAE designation a plus.
At least ten years of accounting and tax experience within the non -profit industry. Minimum of seven years in a supervisory capacity, preferably a similar position.
Technical Skills: Requires broad knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, legislation, taxation and regulations concerning non-profit reporting. Must have a strong understanding of computer systems and concepts as they relate to financial management. Hands-on experience with accounting and financial management software (e.g. Sage, Great Plains). Expertise in MS Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
Must have the ability to relate technical information to both accounting and non-accounting staff and translate regulation into application. Must understand relevant enterprise risks and the mitigation of those risks. Demonstrated successes in the areas of performance management and fostering growth within team members. Deep experience in financial management including developing and managing a budget; revenue forecasting and expense management.
Experience developing and managing financial and accounting policies and practices as they relate to nonprofits with emphasis on 501(c) 3 and 501(c) 6.
Excellent people skills, with experience collaborating in a multidisciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team.
This is a remote based position, but limited travel may be required.
