Are you a collaborative accountant who thrives on working in partnerships across campus offices? Grinnell College is looking for you to fill our Staff Accountant position, whose primary duties will be functions related to federal and private grants. In partnership with the Corporate Foundation and Government Relations Office, Financial Aid, faculty and other principal investigators, to maintain compliance and financial reporting. The role will also assist with gift accounting and work alongside the Development and Alumni Relations office to provide information on restricted use gift funds. As a team member of the Accounting Department, you will provide general accounting support and assistance with special projects as they arise.
Key Responsibilities
Responsible for financial aspects of federal and private grants from proposal to closeout including reporting, expense approval, time and effort documentation, requesting funds, budget monitoring and subaward management and monitoring.
Provide oversight and direction to ensure compliance with policies and terms and conditions.
Manage reconciliation process for federal student assistance programs.
Prepare internal audit workpapers and external sponsor financial reports.
Assist with accounting, reconciling and reporting of restricted donor funds.
Assist the department with general accounting responsibilities.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university
Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience
Analyze and interpret policies, terms and conditions, regulations; ability to think conceptually
Planning and organizing skills; strong attention to detail
Strong information management skills
Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of constituents
Independent self-starter with developed problem-solving skills
Recognizes the value of teamwork
Champions diversity, equity, and inclusion
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
Preferred Qualifications
BA in Accounting, finance or another business degree
CFRA or CRA (or willingness to obtain)
Prior higher education or nonprofit experience
