The Staff Accountant will play a critical role in maintaining the financial integrity of The School by overseeing key accounting functions, including accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, payroll benefits, and all balance sheet account reconciliations. The ideal candidate will have extensive accounting experience, a solid understanding of financial regulations, and a passion for supporting the financial operations of a nonprofit institution. This is a twelve-month position with full benefits.
Key Responsibilities:
Accounts Receivable Management
Oversee all aspects of accounts receivable
Assist in enrollment contract management
Assist in the reconciliation of development receipts
Bank Reconciliations
Perform monthly bank reconciliations for all accounts to ensure accurate recording of transactions.
Investigate and resolve discrepancies between bank statements and financial records.
Prepare and present monthly reconciliation reports to management
General Accounting Support
Process monthly journal entries for all general ledger accounts, ensuring all expenses are recorded in the correct period.
Assist in the preparation of monthly and year-end financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and Department reports
Ensure accurate recording of financial transactions in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
Help prepare schedules for the annual audit and provide necessary documentation to external auditors.
Assist in capital projects
Payroll/Benefits/Human Resources:
Assist with payroll processing
Maintain detailed and accurate payroll and benefits records and files
Generate payroll reports and provide data analysis as needed for management, budget, and audit purposes
Reconcile payroll and benefit accounts monthly
Assist with the administration of the 403(b) plan and audit
Process Improvement
Identify opportunities for streamlining accounting processes and improving efficiency within the finance department.
Collaborate with the other team members on system upgrades, policy development, and best practices for financial operations.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field
Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience, preferably in a school setting
Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices
Strong computer skills and demonstrated proficiency with Google applications and databases
Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and time management skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
