Located in Highland Park, Illinois, our family office manages and provides back office services to a privately held group of real estate and other investment entities. Initially established in the late 1960s, this stable, multi-generational office is staffed by knowledgeable and committed people. Our current controller, who is retiring, manages a three-person accounting team which we expect to expand in the near future. We are looking for an experienced full charge accountant who seeks a long-term position in a positive work environment. This is a full-time position and reports directly to the CEO.
Maintain books and records for multiple investments and entities
Prepare year-end estimates for outside income tax preparers
Prepare year-end trial balances for use by outside income tax preparers
Provide internal reports on real estate and non-real estate investment activity
Prepare and oversee 1099’s and various state tax filings
Assure proper payment of estimated tax payments
Review income tax returns prepared by outside tax preparers
Guide and review work of accounting staff in the above areas
Manage and track capital calls and distributions
Create financial and cash flow projections
Prepare internal asset and cash flow reports for management
Assist in expansion of the accounting staff
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE AND ABILITIES
At least 10 years of experience in public accounting and/or real estate and investment accounting
CPA certification preferred
Full grasp of both cash and accrual accounting
Accounting for real estate operations and transactions, including 1031 exchanges
Accounting for non-real estate investments
Accounting for a full range of entities (partnerships, LLCs, C-corporations, S-corporations, trusts)
Experience with GP accounting software and Quicken preferred
Ability to organize, analyze, and articulate complex financial information
Excellent workpaper, spreadsheet and writing skills
