The Appraisal Institute is seeking a solutions-oriented financial professional and people leader to develop and motivate the Accounting staff.
As the CFO's "right hand", the Controller is responsible for all financial compliance activities, annual audit and tax returns for the Institute and our affiliated organizations. Additionally, this role will be responsible for the annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting processes and the functions of general accounting; A/P, A/R, cash receipts payroll and dues processing. With four direct reports, the Controller will also be responsible for staff development and enforcing policies and procedures to maintain strong internal controls.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:
Oversee all financial reporting within required timelines and in accordance with GAAP principles and applicable government and regulatory requirements. Responsible for financial reporting for the Board of Directors, Audit and Finance Committees, senior management and affiliated organizations.
Direct the annual budget and quarterly forecasting processes to ensure timely and accurate completion. Prepares presentations with clear and concise information for the Finance Committee and Board of Directors to enable them to focus on strategic considerations and make sound organizational decisions.
Research and recommend ways to improve the efficiency of the Finance function through the use of technology, banking services and other outside service providers.
Develop, implement and enforce accounting and financial policies and procedures which contribute to efficient operation of the organization while maintaining a strong system of internal controls.
Work effectively with outside auditors in the planning and completion of annual audits for the Institute and affiliated organizations within the established timeline and budget.
Lead and manage the finance team to include hiring, management of workload, performance appraisals and staff development to include coaching and mentoring.
Collaborate with the CFO and corporate banking team to maximize benefits of treasury and cash management services and expertise offered by the bank in managing cash flow and balances of the organization and related entities.
Establish effective working relationship with IT to ensure financial systems and software are utilized to their maximum capabilities and effectively maintained and supported.
WHO YOU ARE:
Bachelor's Degree required in Accounting; CPA preferred; Master's degree in related field a plus
10+ years of accounting experience with 5+years' experience in a managerial role
Non-profit experience preferred
Experience using NetForum association management software as well as Microsoft office preferred.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to effectively communicate to staff, solicit feedback and encourage buy-in.
Exceptional organization skills and analytical and problem solving skills
Proven experience managing, motivating and developing assigned team members
