The organization’s estimated NPR is roughly $550M, boasting impressive operating margins and approximately 320 days cash-on-hand.
Our client is proactively planning leadership succession within its finance department. After over three-decades of service, their current Controller plans to retire in November 2023. The ideal candidate would have a minimum of five years’ experience as a Controller in another healthcare organization and/or experience as a hands-on Director of Finance for a larger health system.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Controller will supervise the accounting staff and will be responsible for ensuring work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner. This position oversees general ledger preparation, accounts payable, banking duties, financial reporting, year-end audit, Medicare cost report preparation, and the support of budget and forecast activities. The successful candidate, if hired permanently, will also play an active role in developing and leveraging relationships with other leaders in the community at large.
Manages the day-to-day accounting operations including supervising a team of accountants and supporting operations. Reviews staff work to ensure accuracy and timely completion.
Responsible for monthly financial statement preparation, assisting with coordination of tax and audit-related reporting (990’s, 1099’s, etc.), coordinating census information, cost reporting, and researching complex accounting issues.
Provides oversight of all budget reporting comparing actual results to budget standards. Completes analytical reviews and follow-ups with department heads regarding all material budget variances.
Responsible for maintaining accurate financial statements during the financial close and quarterly review process. Confirms the accuracy of operating and financial reports.
Maintains ownership over General Ledger ensuring new GL accounts are correctly added the accounting system and properly included in all financial reports.
Monitors and analyzes department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
Advises staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions.
Assists in the development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department.
Works with each direct report to establish goals and objectives for each year and monitor and advise on the progress to enhance the professional development of staff.
Understands laws, regulations, and third-party payer requirements. Provides oversight to assure that the Hospital is in full compliance with these rules.
Abides by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability privacy and security regulations regarding all aspects of Protected Health Information (PHI).
B.S. in Accounting; CPA required.
Minimum of five years of financial leadership experience (Director or Controller level) within a hospital environment.
Experience with reimbursements and cost report preparation.
Requires strong interpersonal communication skills both written and verbal.
