The University of Michigan School of Dentistry Budget & Finance team manages financial reporting, procurement, research lab ordering, and clinic financial reporting. Led by a Director of Budget and Financial Planning, the unit supports the school's academic and clinical operations.
This position is responsible for updating and maintaining financial systems, including exporting and importing files into databases. Modifies menus and spreadsheets for analysis and troubleshooting, and works on most phases of financial systems development and maintenance.
Analyze and interpret various moderate to complex financial data for reporting purposes and create variance analysis.
Extract accounting data from M-Pathways and electronic health record system and use data to produce meaningful reports for distribution to department admins, department chairs, and leadership.
Write and utilize Business Objects and EHR queries to obtain and organize data using pivot tables, criteria, etc., to compile meaningful monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for distribution.
Prepare budget templates and assist with annual budgets.
Ensure data quality and identify trends.
Reconcile accounts receivable deposits and balance sheet accruals.
Prepare monthly reconciliation and resolve identified items.
Reconcile daily and monthly activity within EHR, M-Pathways, and bank data.
Contact and work collaboratively with others to resolve discrepancies.
Prepare and upload journal entries from Excel to M-Pathways, monthly for clinic revenue, collections, and receivables with complex data, for budgets, and as needed and requested.
Special projects and departmental support.
Prepare reports or responses as needed using M-Pathways, EHR, Business Objects, and Excel.
Assist with annual visual financial presentation.
Identify areas for improvement or efficiency in reporting processes.
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration/Accounting or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
2+ years of experience with financial database systems.
2+ years of experience in the design of financial reports.
Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate with staff and faculty at various levels.
Ability to complete multiple tasks concurrently with changing priorities.
Ability to formulate projects independently, meet deadlines, and work without a high degree of supervision.
