Financial Controller (Full-Time) Position Overview
Tenacre Country Day School seeks a detail-oriented and collaborative Financial Controller to oversee the School’s accounting operations and financial reporting. Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Controller ensures the accuracy of financial records, maintains strong internal controls, and supports sound financial management in accordance with nonprofit accounting standards.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee general accounting functions including journal entries, general ledger, and account reconciliations
Maintain accurate financial records in accordance with GAAP
Prepare quarterly financial reports and support financial analysis for leadership
Coordinate the annual audit and serve as liaison with external auditors
Oversee nonprofit compliance and filings, including IRS Form 990
Maintain internal financial controls and organized financial documentation
Collaborate with the Director of Finance, senior administrators, and Board committees on financial reporting and planning
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
CPA or MBA strongly preferred
Minimum five years of accounting experience, preferably in a nonprofit or independent school
Knowledge of nonprofit and fund accounting
Experience with financial systems such as Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT preferred
Advanced proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office

Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
Compensation & Benefits
Salary range: $90,000 – $120,000, commensurate with experience.

The employee must be able to work in a busy environment with many interruptions and moderate noise levels. Tenacre School is a small, co-educational day school for children in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade Six. Our mission is to "nurture and challenge each child, every day." Tenacre enrolls 194 students in Pre-Kindergarten through 6th Grade, and has a teaching staff of 35, including special subject teachers for science, Spanish, art, technology, library, music, P.E., and Spanish. Tenacre also has resource teachers for reading and math to maintain small group learning. Supporting the operation of the school are the academic, admission/enrollment, business, and development offices.

Tenacre has a warm, welcoming work environment. All staff are encouraged to participate in a variety of activities throughout the year, from community service projects with students, or acting in an annual faculty/staff play, to talking with the students about a hobby or trip during an assembly, or even attending "tadpole graduation" with third graders in the spring! Everyone on the staff works to enhance the learning experience of the children from direct teaching, to maintaining the facilities, to providing a nutritious lunch each day.
