The Office of Admissions and Financial Aid in University Student Services is responsible for the enrollment management function that underpins the University’s ability to attract, recruit, admit, and matriculate our Arts and Sciences and Engineering undergraduate students. The office is also a key advisor to the university’s graduate and professional programs (with the exception of PhD programs) whose students are among the best in the nation.
Specifically, the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid uses an integrated and seamless approach to strategy, planning, and implementation in admissions and financial aid. This strategic planning, integration, and coordination of overall university enrollment management relies heavily on the use of data analytics to inform marketing, messaging, and recruitment, financial aid, and to manage the size, composition, selectivity, and other characteristics of admitted students across all academic programs
We are seeking a Director, Enrollment Analytics, Planning and AI who will be responsible for supporting the university’s enrollment management strategy, providing high level data analysis to inform strategic planning, analyze the effectiveness of initiatives through data-driven research, and to ensure that staff have access to relevant data to inform their work.
Reporting to the Vice Provost for Admissions and Financial Aid and serving as a member of the Vice Provost’s leadership team, the Director, EM Analytics will formulate, develop and communicate insightful and actionable intelligence to aid strategic decision-making in both admissions and financial aid, as well as evolve the data infrastructure of the offices to facilitate the use of data by staff.
In addition, the Director, EM Analytics is responsible for the strategic design, implementation, integration, and accessibility of resources which enable effective and reliable data collection, data analytics, and business intelligence across the university to inform admissions and financial aid strategy and to drive recruitment and marketing efforts that align with institutional priorities. Under the direction of the Vice Provost, the Director, EM Analytics will have primary responsibility for undergraduate enrollment management (admissions and financial aid) and a critical advisory and coordination role in relation to select graduate programs across the university.
Finally, the Director, EM Analytics will be expected to have in-depth knowledge and the ability to stay abreast of industry trends and tools, monitor admissions and financial data trends, and articulate opportunities for enrollment management across the university.
The Director of Enrollment Management Analytics, Planning and AI has one Data Analyst position that reports to it.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Advanced Data Analysis
Conduct in-depth analysis using statistical techniques to identify trends, patterns, and correlations within admissions and financial aid data.
Develop predictive models to forecast application volume, acceptance rates, and enrollment yield for different applicant segments.
Analyze trends in financial aid to provide a greater understanding of family income and asset trends to ensure that the financial aid program effectively supports students and families.
Utilize data visualization and other tools to present complex findings in clear and actionable reports for stakeholders.
Strategic Insights, Intelligence Reporting and Communications
Provide a deep level of analysis of research findings and synthesize key points in concise and compelling competitive intelligence reports and other deliverables.
Provide data-driven insights to inform admissions strategies, including understanding applicant trends, optimizing application review processes, and assessing the effectiveness of recruitment and marketing efforts.
Develops reports for senior staff and leadership across the university that can be shared with other stakeholders, such as faculty, students, trustees, donors, and membership organizations, to communicate messages and information and/or analysis related to the deployment of enrollment management resources and/or financial aid funding in a way that aligns with institutional goals.
Create data analysis tools to be used by Deans and managers in admissions and financial aid, as well as automated data delivery tools for the office and other university constituents, such as the Provost, President, and Deans.
Continues to develop, integrate, and execute strategies to provide timely data and analyses to advance strategic initiatives in the admissions and financial aid reporting environments and to ensure alignment with University goals.
Provides regular status reports and analysis to management.
Review and understand large sets of historical data while being able to highlight relevant trends and patterns.
Data Collection and Management
Develop and execute a strategy for ingesting data from a variety of third-party sources, then transforming and leveraging it for analytical use.
Clean, transform, and validate data to ensure accuracy and consistency for analysis.
Develop and maintain data pipelines to automate data ingestion and processing.
Manage Admissions and Financial Aid reporting efforts to internal and external entities to assure data quality and integrity.
Data Architecture, Infrastructure, Policy, and Tools
Working with the University IT department, drive database infrastructure building to understand and support the effective integration and collaboration of existing databases across the university, including the data warehouse. With respect to the data warehouse, responsibilities include optimizing its design, ensuring data integrity, archiving data, and incorporating new data elements.
Pitch, design, and build data architecture, pipelines, and products that integrate systems across the decentralized university environment.
Working with the enrollment management leadership team, explore emerging needs and uses for A.I. tools in admissions and financial aid.
Leads collaborative projects related to integrating data and advanced data tools into policymaking; suggests ways to deploy tools and advanced data science capabilities in team projects.
Responsible for overseeing the proper use of data and technology and creating data-driven, analytical business processes and procedures.
Fosters collaboration across departments/organizations to ensure the flow of data required for analysis and to identify new opportunities.
Develop data ownership policies, procedures, and best practices.
Team Leadership and Mentorship
Lead/mentor junior data analysts on data analysis projects, ensuring quality and adherence to best practices.
Stay updated on emerging data analytics techniques and technologies to continuously improve data analysis capabilities and serve as a university-wide resource for school-based admissions, financial aid, and/or enrollment management offices.
Special Skills and Knowledge
Advanced proficiency in data analysis tools and programming languages such as SQL, Python, and R.
Strong understanding of statistical methods and data modeling techniques.
Experience with data visualization tools like Tableau or Power BI.
Excellent communication and presentation skills to convey complex data insights to diverse audiences.
Knowledge of SQL, HTML, JavaScript, PHP, VB, Flash, and ASP.
Advanced knowledge and demonstrated understanding of developing and tuning complex queries, stored procedures, and user-defined functions using T-SQL.
High degree of familiarity with higher education admissions and financial aid processes and related data issues and opportunities is preferred.
Knowledge of database structures and their capabilities and limitations.
Ability to manage and prioritize multiple short, medium, and long-term projects.
Strong analytical and data reporting skills, including quantitative, logical, content, and other analytical frameworks.
Must be able to rapidly understand data schemas and layouts.
Must be able to perform advanced data extraction and leverage data analytics expertise to identify/understand organizational needs and contribute to the formation and execution of strategy.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to convey complex information in a clear and digestible fashion to faculty, staff, University officials, and other non-technical audiences.
Ability to distill complex information into key concepts and actionable intelligence
Advanced knowledge of techniques to automate report generation and delivery.
Deep knowledge and high curiosity about higher education, enrollment management, and emerging trends and challenges in higher education enrollment management

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in related field.
Five years of related and progressive experience in healthcare IT, analytics, software development or data management.
Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Proficiency in BI tools such as Tableau, Power BI or Epic Cogito.
Preferred Qualifications
Masters’ Degree is highly preferred.
Experience within an undergraduate higher education environment is desirable.
Formal knowledge of statistics is desirable.
Experience automating report generation
Experience presenting key findings in a non-technical manner to clients and senior leadership.
