Overview The Financial Analyst is responsible for providing financial information through analysis and reporting, identifying risks and trends to enable informed decision-making by unit and/or University leadership. This role involves recommending improvements to systems, methods, practices, policies, and procedures through comprehensive information review. The Financial Analyst collaborates with various departments to perform high-level financial analyses, support budgeting, forecasting, and reporting processes, and ensure compliance with university policies and procedures.
Required Skills and Abilities 1. Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to adapt communication styles to meet the needs of individuals at all levels within the university. 2. Strong attention to detail, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Ability to create new and complex reports for tracking, analysis, and communication of financial information. 3. Demonstrated ability to prioritize, manage time effectively, and handle multiple tasks and deadlines. Proficiency in working independently and within a team setting. 4. Proven proficiency in accounting principles and practices, with a thorough working knowledge of financial systems and reporting tools. 5. Commitment to an inclusive workplace with the ability to engage diverse audiences. Demonstrated reliability, professionalism, and teamwork skills.
Preferred Skills and Abilities 1. Prior Yale business office-related or higher education experience, with a strong preference for experience with Workday Financials and HCM, YBT, Power BI, and Excel Pivot Tables. 2. Thorough knowledge of financial reporting and analysis, as well as Yale University business, accounting, and financial policies and procedures. 3. Demonstrated database management and systems integration experience, with an interest in the healthcare industry. 4. Pursuing or holding a Master's Degree in Business or Healthcare Administration preferred. 5. Experience with inventory management and financial systems such as Oracle, EPIC, and other relevant tools.
Principal Responsibilities
1. Financial modeling and forecasting: Provides analysis to determine present and future financial performance. Organizes information from a variety of sources for use in analyzing future plans and forecasts. Collaborates with all levels of management, both internally and externally, to gather, analyze, summarize, prepare, and present recommendations regarding financial activities. Researches information to help resolve issues and make recommendations. 2. Financial analysis and reporting: Analyzes information and creates accurate and timely reports. Ensures financial reporting meets the compliance needs of internal and external users. Extracts data from multiple sources. 3. Financial methods and systems: Recommends methods to improve practices, processes and systems. Works with internal and external contacts to carry out department objectives. Provides a high level of service that cultivates and maintains strong working relationships and effectively communicates information; takes ownership and accountability for timeliness, accuracy and relationship management. 4. Strategic Resource: Translates unit finance objectives into priorities. Reports financial issues and risks and makes recommendations. Contacts appropriate stakeholders to include in communications and approvals 5. Compliance and risk management: Establishes, implements and/or maintains strong internal controls in areas of assigned responsibility to provide reasonable assurance of effective and appropriate resources use, accurate financial information, and adherence to contractual obligations and agreements, policies, procedures, and external regulatory requirements. 6. May perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Economics or Finance and two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated application of financial, accounting and economic concepts.
